Ashton's La Aroma de Cuba rated 93
Ashton Distributors has a new Aroma de Cuba. The new smoke not only has a wrapper that Ashton has never used before, but one of the cigars in the line scored 93 points this week in a blind tasting in Cigar Insider, Cigar Aficionado's twice-monthly cigar newsletter.
A Fatter San Cristobal being added - Papagayo XXL
This week the new San Cristobal Papagayo XXL started shipping to American smokeshops, sporting a massive 60 ring gauge. "It's a monster," said Ashton Distributors vice president Sathya Levin. The Papagayo XXL is a beefed up version of the San Cristobal Papagayo, which measures 5 3/4 inches long by 55 ring. The Papagayo, which Ashton created about one year ago, "Instantly became one of our best-selling sizes," said Levin. It was the fattest parejo (or straight sided) cigar in the brand, which is made in Nicaragua at Pepin Garcia's My Father Cigars factory.
The 25 Best Cigars of the Year 2009 - #9 - Ashton Virgin Sun Grown Torpedo
Ashton Virgin Sun Grown cigars are the original powerhouse cigar. Made by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. for Ashton Distributors Inc., the brand’s hallmark is its dark, Sumatra-seed wrappers grown under the perpetually cloudy skies in Ecuador at the foothills of the Andes by one of the legendary names in the tobacco business, the Oliva Tobacco Co. of Tampa, Florida. Ashton VSGs, as they are known, consistently take some of the highest scores in Cigar Aficionado magazine and Cigar Insider newsletter.
Ashton's Aroma de Cuba Brand Now Rolled in Garcia Factory
Ashton's economically priced La Aroma de Cuba brand is now being made by Jose "Pepin" Garcia in Nicaragua at the My Family Cigars factory. Ashton moved the operation earlier this year, and has made some changes to the brand. La Aroma de Cuba was first released in 2002 as a budget-friendly premium cigar manufactured at Altadis's Flor de Copan S.A. factory in Honduras. This year Ashton decided to turn the operation over to Garcia, who makes San Cristobal, La Aroma de Cuba Edición Especial and other cigars for the Philadelphia company.
The 25 Best Cigars of the Year 2008 - #4 - La Aroma de Cuba Edición Especial No. 5
La Aroma de Cuba is an old Cuban brand name, believed to have been a favorite of Sir Winston Churchill. Ashton Distributors created a Honduran version of the brand in 2003, made by La Flor de Copan, and last summer it added the Edición Especial variation, which it contracted out to the hottest name in the cigar business, Jose “Pepin” Garcia. Pepin’s La Aroma de Cuba is the best yet, made with his trademark Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, and covered in something relatively new for him, Ecuadoran leaf.
The 25 Best Cigars of the Year 2008 - #10 - Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Robusto
Ashton is one of the classic brands of the cigar industry. Created in the early 1980s by Robert Levin, the Dominican cigars now come in every conceivable variety, with a flavor profile built for every palate. They range from the mild and easygoing Ashton Classic to the peppery and bold Ashton VSG, with all types of flavors and strength profiles in between. Perhaps the sleeper of the storied brand is the Ashton Heritage Puro Sol.
Nicaraguan La Aroma Ready to Debut
Next week, the cigar world will get its first look at the new La Aroma de Cuba. Unlike the original, it will be made in Nicaragua, rather than Honduras. La Aroma de Cuba Edición Especial is being made in Nicaragua by Jose "Pepin" Garcia. Brand owner Robert Levin, who also owns the Ashton and San Cristobal cigar brands, said it has strength and flavor—but not too much.
